The Congregation of the Mission (more popularly known as The Vincentians) was founded by St. Vincent de Paul in 1625. We, its members have a special apostolic purpose of evangelizing the poor and promoting the formation of the clergy. We are a clerical society of apostolic life and of pontifical right, faithful to St. Vincent and sanctioned by the church. We live in common as brothers by following our rule of life, and striving for perfect charity.
According to the tradition set forth by St. Vincent, the Congregation of the Mission carries on its apostolate in close cooperation with the bishops and diocesan clergy. We are therefore secular, although autonomous.
In order to accomplish more effectively our purpose, we take vows of stability, chastity, poverty and obedience according to our constitutions and statutes.
The Congregation of the Mission is international. It is established in over 90 countries of the world including Nigeria. In Nigeria, we have 73 confreres with an average age of 38. |
