TRAIN A SEMINARIAN

Be A Missionary Today: Train a Seminarian today

The Vincentian missionaries arrived in Nigeria in 1960 at the invitation of Bishop Monynagh, the then bishop of Calabar. Today, Vincentian Fathers and Brothers work in Lagos, Abeokuta, Ikot Ekpene, Owerri, Uyo, Portharcourt, Makurdi, Calabar, Enugu, Nnewi, Idah, Otukpo, and Abuja dioceses with further plans for expansion to several other dioceses. We have missions in Chad, Ghana, Sierra Leon, etc.  Our primary apostolate is working with and for the poor, and this is manifested in three major areas of ministry, namely.

  1. Retreats and Missions
  2. Formation of the Clergy and Education
  3. Parish and Youth Ministry

The harvest is indeed plentiful but the laborers are few. How may you support the work of evangelizing the poor?

How can I help?

“Some give to the mission by going, while some go to the mission by giving”.

Our work for the poor, according to the mind of  St. Vincent De Paul and following Christ evangelizing the poor, cannot continue without the commitment of strong men of faith and also the generous financial support of good-willed people like you. Today, we have over 80 Vincentian Seminarians in different stages of formation in Nigeria. These men, when ordained, will work not only in Nigeria but also in other African countries and beyond, in bringing good news to the poor.

Take Action

These estimates are based on the current inflation rate in Nigeria; two or more persons in a family can team up to sponsor a seminarian. You may also wish to sponsor more than one seminarian at a time. It takes 9 full years for a seminarian to be ordained a priest.  However, you may want to sponsor a Seminarian halfway, by choosing to sponsor him for only 4 years or so. This should be according to your means.
