BIOGRAPHY

Rev. Fr. Austin Nnamdi Mbelu is a native of Amankwa, Ozubulu in Ekwusigo L.G.A. , Anambra State. He was born on the 17th of August, 1964, the last of four surviving children of late Mr. & Mrs. Emmanuel Mbelu. He did is primarily education at Amakwa Central School, and 1977, he moved over for his secondary education which he finished at Doctor Lucas Memorial Grammar School, Ki-rikiri town in 1983. During those years of primary school and secondary education, he felt called to the ministry of the Catholic Priesthood and, in a special way, to follow the vocation of St. Vincent De Paul. In 1984, he was accepted into the Vincentian Family, and after the initial one year of spiritual orientation in the Vincentian Novitiate at Ogobia, he proceeded for his degree studies at St. Joseph Major Seminary, Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. At the end of the four-year study in Philosophy, he was recommended to do another four years of study in Theology, which he completed at Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu, in 1993. During the course of his theological studies, Fr. Austin Mbelu took final commitment to the Vincentian vocation, was ordained a deacon, and finally ordained a priest on the 14th of August, 1993. As the Psalmist says: “This thing the Lord has done, we rejoice and are glad”. After his ordination, he was appointed Rector of St Anthony of Padua Formation Centre, the Spiritual Year Seminary of Ikot-Ekpene Diocese, where he was until 1995. He was sent to Ireland for further studies, where he did a course in Counseling and Spiritual Direction, and he returned finally in June 1997 to take up an appointment at Christ the King Catholic Church, Akowonjo, Lagos, with his former Vocations Director, the Very Rev. Fr. R. M. Crowley, CM as his Superior – Divine Providence is always at work. Apart from his re studies, Fr. Austin has also done a course in At Radio and T.V. production, Public Relations, and Leadership training.
