
Introduction
On November 14th, 2025 Lumen Christi College, Maya, Ikorodu, Lagos, had the singular honor of hosting the Metropolitan Archbishop of the See of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, on a pastoral visit. The occasion was marked by warmth, reverence, and a spirit of unity, as the entire school community led by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Jenfa Adedayo CM, alongside the management, staff, students, and parents joined hands to welcome the Archbishop to the school premises.
Arrival and Reception
The Archbishop arrived at the college to a vibrant reception, greeted with music by the school band group. The school compound was adorned with decorations befitting the dignity of the visit, and the atmosphere was filled with joy and anticipation. The principal, management team, staff, students, and parents, under the coordination of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), worked harmoniously to ensure a befitting welcome. The Archbishop was ushered in with songs of praise and traditional gestures of hospitality.
Welcome Address by the Principal
In his welcome address, Rev. Fr. Jenfa Adedayo CM, the Principal of Lumen Christi College, expressed profound gratitude to the Archbishop for honoring the school with his presence. He highlighted the spiritual significance of the visit, noting that it was a source of encouragement and inspiration for the entire school community. He also emphasized the commitment of the college to the holistic formation of students academically, morally, and spiritually in line with the mission of the Congregation and Catholic Church.

Address by the Senior Prefect (Girl)
The girl’s school prefect delivered a brief but heartfelt address on behalf of the student body. She expressed the joy of the students in receiving the Archbishop and assured him of their readiness to uphold the values of discipline, excellence, and faith instilled in them by the school. Her words reflected the enthusiasm of the young minds who saw the Archbishop’s presence as a blessing and motivation.
Address by the PTA Chairman
The Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) also gave a short address, appreciating the Archbishop for his pastoral care and guidance. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the school management and parents in nurturing the students and pledged continued support for the growth and development of Lumen Christi College. He further prayed for God’s wisdom and strength for the Archbishop in his leadership of the Archdiocese.
Response by the Archbishop
In his response, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins expressed his delight at the warm reception accorded him. He commended the Principal, staff, students, and parents for their unity and dedication to the mission of Catholic education. The Archbishop encouraged the students to remain steadfast in their studies and faith, reminding them that they are the future leaders of both the Church and society. He also urged the parents and staff to continue working together in harmony to ensure the holistic development of the children entrusted to their care.
Episcopal Blessing
The Archbishop then imparted his blessing upon the entire school community. He prayed for divine guidance, protection, and prosperity for the students, staff, and parents, invoking God’s grace upon the institution to continue to flourish as a beacon of light and knowledge.
Signing of the Visitor’s Register
As a formal conclusion to the visit, the Archbishop signed the school’s visitor’s register, leaving behind a record of his pastoral presence at Lumen Christi College. This symbolic act underscored the importance of the occasion and will remain a cherished memory in the annals of the school.
Departure
Following the signing, the Archbishop took his leave amidst songs of thanksgiving and joy. The school community accompanied him with gratitude and admiration, deeply enriched by his presence and pastoral encouragement.
